01 Description

Sage (Salvia officinalis) is a plant of the Laminaceae family. Small evergreen shrub with quadrangular-section branches. The leaves are opposite, finely toothed covered with down, petiolate, oval-lanceolate, thick and wrinkled. The inflorescences are vertical with flowers borne in whorls of 2 or 4, which appear around June-July. Sage can live in the wild for over 15 years and in cultivation for 5 to 7 years.

Sage has been known since ancient times for its healthy properties, which explains its name, coming from salvo which means "to save". The Gauls, in particular, believed that sage had the ability to heal all diseases and that it acted effectively as a "deterrent" against fever and cough.
