Commonly called oat, the oat plant has a hollow and thin stem with various ramifications, its leaves are elongated and the flowers develop in groups of small ones which produce caryopses, small dried fruits rich in starch. In flakes, in natural grains, in flour, as bran, oats are an excellent and healthy ingredient to use in the kitchen and beyond. In the past it was consumed only as animal feed, now it is a re-evaluated food in our kitchens and ideal for those who need to lose weight as it gives a good sense of satiety
