Commonly called biada, the plant of oats has a hollow and thin stem which ramifies differently. Its leaves are elongated and its flowers grow in groups which produce small dried fruits -the caryoxides- which are rich in starch. Whether under the form of flakes, natural grains, flour or bran, oats is an excellent healthy ingredient to use in the kitchen and beyond. In the past it was only used as animal feed but now it has been re-evaluated in our kitchens as it is ideal for those who have to lose weight because it gives a good sense of satiety.
